An investigation was conducted in the case of Bill Gates’ involvement with Microsoft employee almost 20 years ago. The investigation started after information regarding it came out in 2019. Gates at that time was trying to get involved in a romantic relationship with that employee.

To conduct a detailed investigation, an external law firm was also involved. The board went through all the details and information regarding the matter. Before a decision was made, Gates backed down from the board.

"Microsoft received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000,” read a statement. “A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm, to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern.”

Dow Jones spoke on the matter and shared that Microsoft directors wanted Gates to step down from the board. What he did was not right, his involvement with the employee was unethical. Details regarding the investigation weren’t shared.

In March 2020, Bill Gates confirmed his exit from the firm. He said the reason was that he wants to focus more on philanthropy. Co-founding Microsoft in 1975, Gates has been the CEO of the company since that year till 2000. The Gates including Bill and Melinda have been part of many philanthropic projects. They helped many through their Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Even after divorce, it is being said that they will work together to run their Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the biggest charitable foundation. The foundation works on helping the poor and ensures better opportunities for them.

Many people starting linking the affair to the couple’s divorce and Gates stepping down from the board. But his spokesperson explained that these things have no link to each other. His stepping down has no connection to the affair.
