SCR gearing up to deal with monsoon season.

SCR will have frequent patrols of the sites, as well as station watchmen, after identifying risky locations, such as bridges, that require extra care.

At the designated bridges, a total of 12 water level monitoring devices have been placed to provide continuous data on the water level.

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has put in place a plan to deal with any monsoon-related difficulties and protect the safety of train passengers. The action plan was created with participation from several multidisciplinary teams involved in operations and infrastructure maintenance, and it will be executed across all the SCR divisions.

SCR will have frequent patrols of the sites, as well as stationary watchmen, after identifying risky locations, such as bridges, that require extra care. Furthermore, divisional railway officials are working with state officials to keep an eye on bridges that are connected to dams and reservoirs. At the designated bridges, a total of 12 water level monitoring devices have been placed to provide continuous data on the water level.

This season, over 1,900 tanks have been recognised as having the potential to cause problems to trains. This is also being discussed between railway officials and state government officials.

To ensure field authorities have timely information, SCR has set up a system with various meteorological agencies for receiving weather alerts, and 30 anemometers have been mounted on station buildings near bridges to warn about wind speed.

Gajanan Mallya, the SCR General Manager, has ordered staff to be extra careful at this time to deal with any issues that may arise. He also asked the authorities to follow all safety procedures to the letter.
