Commuters Caught With No Helmet To Lose License

According to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, riding without a helmet will attract Rs 1,000 fine and a three-month suspension of the licence

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad traffic police are laying extra emphasis to control road accidents and fatalities on the city roads. As part of the safety drive they have already been levying penalty via e-challans on two-wheeler owners if they and their pillion riders are caught without wearing helmets. Cyberabad is also notorious for poor road safety. Pillion riders are at the third highest risk of dying in a fatal road accidents, with highest risk being to two-wheeler riders.
Though the enforcement of the helmet rule under the Motor Vehicle Act since 1989 had been in implementation in the city, the traffic cops are now strictly ensuring that the two-wheeler drivers wear their helmets.

Awareness programs are being conducted to make motorists aware the rule that a fine of Rs 1,000 along with suspending the driving license for 3 months as per the Motor Vehicle Act-2019 would be levied.

Speaking to Sakshi, a Cyberabad Traffic Police official said that, '' Nearly 50 per cent of all deaths in the zone are due to helmetless travel by pillion riders. The Supreme Court-appointed committee has already reported that those who do not wear helmets should be fined and their driving licenses suspended for three months. We will carry out programs to make motorists aware of the same. After that, we will take action as per the order of the state government, " he said.
