Cyberabad Police to Seize Vehicles With Outstanding Challans in Hyderabad
As per reports on social media, the Telangana High Court has declared that "traffic police have no powers to seize vehicles for non-payment of challans," and this, according to the Cyberabad police, is not true.
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police Department emphasised that there is no (Telangana) High Court judgement stating that automobiles with outstanding challans can not be seized, and individuals should not believe such rumours. Police authorities are permitted to hold a vehicle that has a pending traffic violation challan that is more than 90 days old, according to rule 167 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The Cyberabad police department today stated that there is no (Telangana) High Court decision stating that automobiles with outstanding challans can not be taken by traffic cops, and advised people not to believe rumours spreading on social media.
Rumours on social media, according to the Cyberabad police, claim that the Telangana High Court has declared that "traffic police have no powers to seize vehicles for non-payment of challans." According to a press release from the police, there is no such order and certain people, for reasons unknown to them, have been making false comments in the media and on social media, causing public confusion.
One of the individuals who are allegedly spreading the rumours had his car seized, and he was arrested by Rajendarnagar traffic cops on Wednesday. According to the Cyberabad police, he paid pending challans against the aforementioned cars in accordance with Rule 167 of the CMVRs, 1989, and the vehicles were freed in accordance with the law.
The offender, however, has been making false claims by misquoting the High Court's decisions, according to the police, which is the deliberate propagation of fake news. The Cyberabad Traffic Police have indicated that they are considering taking legal action against individuals for allegedly spreading false information.
The Cyberabad police department has asked residents to heed the High Court's warning against disseminating false information. According to Rule 167 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, police officers have the authority to hold a vehicle if it has an outstanding traffic violation challan that is older than 90 days.
