Last year it had to be a virtual ceremony due to the pandemic, but the Primetime Emmy Awards returned to an in-person event this year in 2021. The event took place in Los Angeles' Event Deck at L.A. Live on the evening of Sunday, September 19 (which was the morning of September 20 in India).

With seven wins, including Outstanding Drama Series, directing, writing, and four acting prizes for Tobiaz Menzies, Olivia Colman, Josh O'Connor, and Gillian Anderson, The Crown, which had 11 nominations, proved to be the highlight of the night.
