Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are at the top of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) food safety index for 2020-21.
The index evaluates states based on five food safety criteria: human resources and institutional data, compliance, food testing facilities, training and capacity building, and consumer empowerment.
Food Safety Index 2020-21: Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu topped the list of large states in the FSSAI's State Food Safety Index 2020-21. Human resources and institutional data, compliance, food testing (infrastructure and surveillance), training and capacity building, and consumer empowerment are the five criteria used to rank states. Goa was top among small states, followed by Meghalaya and Manipur.
Mansukh Mandaviya, the Health Minister, released the FSSAI report on Monday, September 20th.
Jammu & Kashmir, Andaman & Nicobar Island, and Delhi took the top three spots in the ranking among union territories.
This is the Food and Safety Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) third food safety index, which the Union Minister issued to commemorate the regulatory body's 15th anniversary.
Along with government efforts to enforce quality standards, the Minister stated that the industry and consumers play an important part in reaching the objective of 100% food safety.
Odisha and Himachal Pradesh, among large states, exhibited steady improvement in food safety rankings according to the food safety index for 2020-21. Odisha moved up to 4th place in 2020-21 from 13th place in 2018-19, while Himachal Pradesh moved up to 6th place from 10th place over the same time.
Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, both small states, showed steady progress, whereas Jammu & Kashmir and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, both Union Territories, showed improvement.
The Union Minister released the results of the PAN-India survey identifying the presence of industrially produced trans fatty acid content in the selected foods.
He also unveiled a Vegan Foods logo for easy recognition and distinction from non-vegan foods, empowering consumers to make more informed food choices.
