Tips To Protect Your Skin From Dryness In Winter

30 Dec, 2021 08:39 IST

Your skin responds to the changing seasons. It is most noticeable in the winter. In winter, skin gets drier as the temperature goes down. Dry skin is caused by low humidity, harsh wind, and dry indoor heat. Not only your face, but your entire body can feel the dryness.  Skin dryness causes your skin to become rough, resulting in an itchy sensation. Does your skin get dry in winter and you are searching for a remedy? Then here we are to give you some tips to tackle skin dryness in winter.

1. Always apply moisturizer after you wash your face, hands, or body. You must apply moisturizer as you wash off your skin's natural oil, so to replace it you have to use moisturizer. Do not forget to carry a travel-sized moisturizer with you when you go out.

2. Most of us avoid applying sunscreen to the face in winter thinking that winter sunlight is not harsh on the skin. If you think so, then you are wrong. Remember even in winter, harmful UV light can affect your skin. So always add another layer of sunscreen every morning after you apply a moisturizer.

3. Apply emollients before going to bed. It is preferable to apply emollients at night. because they are heavier types of cream that take a long time to absorb into your skin. Emollients make your skin hydrated.

4. In winter, most of us prefer hot water for baths, which makes you feel better and warmer. But hot water damages your skin and removes your skin's natural oils faster than lukewarm water. So instead of a hot water bath, prefer a lukewarm water bath, which is good for your skin. After having a shower, don't rub your skin with a towel. Instead, gently pat your skin with a soft towel which allows the moisture to hydrate the top layer of the skin.

5. Do not use harsh scrubs or exfoliation on your skin, which causes damage and makes your skin drier. Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. But it does not suit all types of skin.

6. If emollients are not fixing your dry skin damage, then check if your moisturizer has one of these: Shea butter, cocoa butter, rosehip oil, jojoba oil, or petroleum jelly based products like Vaseline and Aquaphor
