Varalakshmi Vratham is the Vratam held on the Friday before Shravan Purnima or Aadi Pournami (Tamil month).

On this day, married women observe a fast.

It is devoted to the Goddess, who is said to possess Ashta Lakshmi's combined powers (eight forms of Lakshmi).

Varalakshmi Vratham 2021: Varalakshmi Vratam is the Vratham (Vrat) held on the Friday before Shravan Purnima or Aadi Pournami (Tamil month). This annual celebration honours the Goddess, who is thought to possess the combined powers of Ashta Lakshmi (the Devi Lakshmi's eight forms), Lord Vishnu's spouse. Women who have acquired the tradition from their mother-in-law frequently do the Varalakshmi Puja. As a result, it has been passed down from generation to generation. Varalakshmi Vratam participants have the Goddess's face engraved on silver or another metal. It's also used every year during the puja.

Varalakshmi Vratam Puja Vidhi

  • Use Gangajal or regular water to purify the puja space.
  • Make a rangoli with rice powder and apply turmeric paste (combined with water) to the altar or wooden platform.
  • Then, in the centre of the platform, set some Akshat and a metal plate on top of it.
  • After that, equally, distribute raw rice on the plate.
  • Then spread the Kalash with Haldi and Kumkum and arrange it in the centre of the plate.
  • Fill the Kalash with water and a pinch of Akshat. Place a whole coconut on the Kalash's neck.
  • Place the Mother Goddess's face on the husk of the coconut now.
  • Then, using a new cloth, drape a saree for the Mother Goddess.
  • Make her hair and dress her up with jewellery and other cosmetics.
  • Place the fresh flower garland around the Goddess's neck.
  • Put the mirror behind the deity subsequently.
  • After that, light the oil lamp.
  • Then, beside the Goddess, place the Sharadu (holy threads).
  • Offer your prayers to Lord Ganesha after the statue has been set.
  • Then recite the sacred mantras dedicated to Goddess Varalakshmi.
  • The Mahalakshmi Sahasranamam Stotram can be played as well.
  • One by one, offer the flowers, and then the tamboolam (consisting of paan, supari, fruits, coconut, Dakshina, flowers, Haldi, and kumkum).
  • Then give the Goddess the Naiveidhyam - Sundal, Payasam, Modak, Idli, Salted Modak, and so on.
  • The aarti should then be performed.
  • Finally, tie the sacred thread around your right wrist to complete the pooja.
