Makar Sankranti 2022: Makara Sankranthi is a festival held in the Indian Subcontinent's southern region. Every year on the 14th of January, this celebration takes place. This festival commemorates the conclusion of the winter season and the Sun God's voyage to the north, known as Uttarayan, and so this month is considered auspicious.

The harvest festival is a religious and seasonal event honouring Lord Surya, the Sun God, and marking the passage of the sun into the Makara (Capricorn) Rashi (zodiac sign). The festival is mostly commemorated in India, although it is also observed by Hindus and Indians all over the world. The celebrations are called by several titles depending on where Makar Sankranti is held.

It is preceded by Lohri and is known as Maghi among north Indian Hindus and Sikhs. Makara Sankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated in Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Telangana. It is also known as Poush sôngkrnti in Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Telangana, Sukarat in central India, Magh Bihu by Assamese, and Thai Pongal or Pongal by Tamils.

For states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, the dates are the same. It is known by various names in other states. Though it is known by several names in different regions, this event is the most important for Telugu culture and states.

The first day is Bhoghi, the second is Makara Sankranti, the third is Kanuma, and the fourth is Mukkanuma. Each day has its rites and ceremonies, including a strict vegetarian diet for the first three days.
