According to the NCRB, 3,770 minors were kidnapped in Delhi in 2020, making it the city with the greatest number of kidnappings out of 19 major cities.

Among India's 19 cities, Delhi has the highest crime rate. According to the most recent National Crime Records Bureau data, for the second year in a row in 2020. At a rate of 150.6 per million people in the city, Delhi police stations recorded 2.45 lakh crimes. Second on the list was Chennai, with a crime rate of 101.6, followed by Ahmedabad (96.6), Mumbai (73.7), and Surat (64.3).

The NCRB used the population of the 19 metropolitan cities from the 2011 Census data to calculate the crime rate (number of crimes per hundred thousand people). According to the study, Delhi had a population of 16.3 million people in 2011. In 2019, Delhi recorded 295,693 instances, the most of any of the 19 cities that year.

In 2020, Mumbai had a total of 50,158 crime cases, or 27.2 per million people, while Kolkata had the lowest crime rate among the 19 cities, with 10.9 crimes per million people.

Decline In Murders

According to the data, the city had 461 murder cases in 2020, which was the most among the 19 cities. The murder rate (cases per million people) was 0.2, which was lower than Nagpur, Jaipur, and Patna but comparable to Bengaluru, Indore, and Lucknow.

According to the research, Mumbai, India's financial hub, is a far safer location. With a crime rate of 0.8, the city recorded 148 murders.

Kidnapping Of Children

According to the NCRB, 3,770 children were abducted in Delhi, the most of any of the 19 major cities studied. There were 654 similar incidents in Bengaluru, 266 in Kolkata, 1,150 in Mumbai, and 14 in Chennai.

The study said that the crime rate in this category could not be determined due to a lack of statistics on the number of minors, or those under the age of 18, in these cities.

When a person is abducted without the use of force, a kidnapping case is filed, according to the law. When force is used, however, police will file an abduction report.

Crime Against Women

With 1.3 incidents of rape per million people, Jaipur was the city with the highest crime rate. When all states' rape cases were compared, Rajasthan came out on top with 5,337 instances. According to NCRB figures, Nagaland has the fewest cases (four) and the lowest crime rate (0.4) among all states and union territories.
