Tirupati: 18 Booked For Spreading Fake News on TTD

Police has registered a case against 18 people for circulating misinformation on social media that the state government had taken a loan by pledging 1,500 kg of gold jewelery belonging to Tirumala temple to the State Bank of India. 


The Jana Sena Party recently posted controversial posts to tarnish the image of the Andhra Pradesh government and TTD from Facebook and Twitter accounts of a member. Another 16 people shared the slanderous campaign from their Twitter accounts. 


The social media post shared had the message: ‘The AP government has pledged 1,500 kg of gold from the Tirumala Tirupati temple to SBI and brought in debt. Save us later. Protect yourself first.’ The post aimed to damage  the repuration of TTD along with that of the state government. 


Vigilance officials lodged a complaint at the Tirupati East police station, along with evidence, alleging that the propaganda was aimed at hurting the sentiments of the devotees and inciting hatred.
