Hyderabad: Two Held For Black Marketing Of Remdesivir

Two held for procuring & selling of covid-19 antiviral drugs, remdesivir injections illegally in the black market at a higher price.

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Commissioner's Task Force, South Zone Team, Hyderabad along with Afzalgunj police nabbed two persons who were illegally procuring and selling Remdesivir injections (Covifor) medicine in the black market to needy customers for the amount of Rs.25,000 to Rs. 35,000 each, without any valid documents. The officers seized 5 Remdesivir injections and two cell phones from the accused.

The accused were identified as Kiran Kumar (35) resident of Bhonagir, working at Medical Agency and Mohd Khaled (23) resident of Chandrayangutta, working as a Security guard at OGH, Hyderabad.

Modus Operandi

The first accused Kiran Kumar native of Bhongir. He completed his B-pharmacy and worked in the medical shop. Basing on his experience, two months back he opened a medical agency at Medipally, Boduppal. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, he observed demand for Remdesivir (Covifor) injections which are being used for Antiviral medicine for Covid-19 patients.

Kumar hatched a plan to procure Remdesivir injections at low price through known sources and sell the same in the black market at a high price (Rs. 30,000 per injection). For that, he procured Remdesivir injections from his known sources with a minimum price and informed Mohd Khaled regarding it and requested for customers.

In this process, Kumar started supplying Remdesivir injections to Khaled and he, in turn, was selling it for Rs. 30,000 to needy customers and earning easy money.

On 17th May, based on credible information the Commissioner's Task Force, South Zone team along with Afzalgunj police apprehended Kiran Kumar, and Mohd Khaled and seized 5 Remdesivir injections from their possession.

The arrests were made by Sri. S. Raghavendra, Inspector of Police, South Zone and SIs S/Sri V. Narender, N. Srishylam, Mohd Thakiuddin, K. Chandra Mohan & Staff of South Zone Task Force, Hyderabad City along with Afzalgunj Police, Hyderabad. The accused and seized material was later handed over to SHO Afzalgunj police for further investigation.
