Hyderabad: Hidden Camera in Ladies Toilet, Housekeeping Boy Arrested

HYDERABAD: A housekeeping worker at a popular drive-in food court in the Jubilee Hills area in the city was arrested by the police on Thursday after it was discovered that he had allegedly placed a camera phone in the women's washroom.

As per details a 25-year-old woman along with her friends had gone to the drive on Wednesday. When she went to the washroom the lady who had a practice of looking around the washrooms, noticed a camera on top of the ceiling. The woman immediately brought the matter to the notice of the management and also complained to police.

A police team went to the One Drive Inn and after an investigation found that a housekeeping worker had kept the camera inside the washroom. The phone's camera was found switched on and it was recording for the past four hours.

Getting into details the accused named Bongarala Banerjee (18) of Gudem village, Nalgonda district was working in the hotel for the past six months. Three days ago he turned on his cell phone video camera and put it in the toilet used by women in the hotel. Apparently, he used to watch the videos recorded and this had been going on for the past three days.

On Wednesday, however, the young woman noticed the cell phone and complained to the owner Chaithanya and the police. Following the complaint, the police took  Banerjee into custody. The cell phone was seized. About 20 such videos were found to have been filmed on the phone. Police are investigating other angles as to whether he had done this before and for how long was he recording the videos. They are also verifying whether he had shared the videos with anyone.

In another shocking incident, the owner Chaitanya told a news channel that a thir person named a Keshav was trying to mediate with the few women who were worried about their videos going viral. He said that the Keshav was trying to tell him that if he was paid Rs 15 lakhs, he would mediate between the police and try and solve the matter without resorting to a case being filed in the Jubillee Hills Police station. The police are yet to respond over this issue. A case has been registered against the accused under the Nirbhaya Act and the seized cell phone was being sent to forensic science laboratory (FSL) for examination. The restaurant owner Chaitanya was also arrested and the staff are being questioned.
