Will Virat Kohli Still Endorse Brands After T20I Captaincy Exit?

18 Sep, 2021 12:32 IST|Sakshi Post

Indian skipper Virat Kohli recently announced that he will be stepping down from the captaincy of the country’s T20 team after the upcoming T20 World Cup ends. The cricketer shared that he will be focusing on T20 as a batsman. This decision was carefully made after long discussions with a fellow player, Rohit Sharma, and also coach Ravi Shastri.

Kohli said that he spoke with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah. He will continue to play for the team and contribute to the best of his ability. There has been immense workload for the past 8-9 years and captaincy in all three formats has been difficult, said the cricketer in a statement posted on Twitter.

While this decision has surprised many in the cricketing world, it has also led to a shock wave among the brands. As we all know, Virat Kohli has many brand endorsements under him. He endorses more than 40 brands which include some of the top ones like Puma, Myntra, and others.

His brand value is soaring high with a current value of USD 237.7 million. With topping the list last year as well, it became his fourth time to lead the charts. He is one of the most valued celebrities in the brand market. But now everybody is wondering if it will remain the same after his T20 captaincy exit? Will his soaring lead in the brand world continue?

Experts and marketing heads have mentioned that this will not affect his brand value. Big brands and products will still place their bets on him. As per Lloyd Mathias, Business Strategist and former Marketing Head of HP Asia, Kohli will not face any change. He is one of the most popular cricketers and his stepping down from India’s T20 captaincy will not affect him.

Instead, this will be seen as a mature decision, one that was taken for the whole team. This is something that he did in the best interest of the team. So if anything, his rationality will be appreciated.
