YS Jagan Felicitates Indian Women's Hockey Team Player E Rajani

AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy felicitated international hockey player from AP -Rajani Etimarupu (30), who was part of the Women’s team at the  Tokyo Olympics. Rajani met the Chief Minister along with her parents today at the camp office. YS Jagan announced a cash incentive of Rs 25 Lakhs for Rajani apart from offering a job to one of her family members.

Rajani was honored by the Chief Minister who presented a shawl and a memento on behalf of the AP government. YS Jagan also directed officials to immediately release the pending arrears declared to Rajani by the previous government and announced 1000 square yards of residential land in Tirupati and an incentive of Rs 40,000 per month to be paid to the goalkeeper of the Indian Women’s Hockey team.

Rajani's hails from Enumulavaripalli in Chittoor district. She has the distinction of being the only sportsperson to participate in Olympics hockey from the Southern States. Rajani is the goalkeeper of the Indian national women’s team. Hailing from a humble background her father is a carpenter and her mother a housewife. She played in the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and has participated in 110 international hockey matches including the Commonwealth Games, and FIH Women’s World Cup 2010.

Rajani's family members, AP Sports Minister Muthamsetti Srinivasa Rao, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP)Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy, SAAP VC and MD N Prabhakar Reddy, SAAP Officers Ramakrishna, June Gallot, Raju, Rajasekhar, and Revenue Principal Secretary Rajat Bhargava were present for the event.

The Indian women's hockey team had advanced to the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics and  Rajini played a key role in the team’s success in reaching there. Despite a fabulous display of skill during the mat, the team finished 4th at Olympic Games, losing  3-4 to Great Britain in the bronze medal play-off. The team created history by reaching the semifinals which was a record in Indian sports history.
