New Headache for TDP

10 Mar, 2024 13:32 IST|Sakshi Post

NTR district: Chaos ruled the candidate selection scene in the Telugu Desam party in Mylavaram town of NTR district. The TDP cadre staged a protest demanding the seat allocation to the local party leaders.

Local TDP leader Bommasani Subbarao protested the assembly election ticket to the turncoat Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad. On Saturday, he took out a protest rally at Ibrahimpatnam to show his strength in the Mylavaram assembly constituency.

On Sunday, the TDP minority leaders organised a protest march in Gollapudi to express their support for Bommasani and demand the party ticket for him. The party cadre raised ‘No non-local, only local’ slogans to register their protest against the decision of TDP leadership.

Vasantha Prasad’s entry into the TDP just ahead of elections has brought discontent in the local opposition camp. Mylavaram constituency has too many ticket aspirants and former irrigation minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao is one among them. Bommasani had conducted party meetings and activities without calling or informing Devineni Uma, leading to internal fights brewing between the two groups. Bommasani’s group vehemently opposed the leadership of Devineni and brought out the differences between them into the open.

It may be worth mentioning here that Bommasani Subbarao contested as an Independent candidate from Mylavaram in 2014 and lost. He later joined the TDP hoping to get a ticket for 2024 assembly elections.
