Following the surveys to feel the pulse of people on ground and considering the pros and cons of contesting the elections from three probable assembly constituencies, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan chose Pithapuram seat to reverse his electoral fortunes and position himself as an elected public representative.

The party carried out poll surveys to test the waters in Kapu-dominated constituencies like Bhimavaram and Gajuwaka from where the party leader had contested the previous elections but faced humiliating defeat. Local people have started airing their disapproval ever since Pawan Kalyan said Pithapuram would be his launching pad to the state Assembly. The people are complaining that they don’t want an outsider in their constituency who would treat it as a guest house.

In the 2019 assembly elections, Pawan contested from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram and lost both the seats. Now, he has set his sights on a safe seat in Pithapuram in Kakinada district. The assembly segment has around 90,000 votes of Kapus and it also has around 80,000 votes of backward classes.

TDP’s SVSN Varma is eyeing the Pithapuram seat. With Pawan Kalyan announcing his candidature from the segment as part of TDP-Jana Sena alliance, the supporters of Varma have expressed their displeasure. The party workers blamed the TDP leadership for denying the ticket to their leader Varma and went on a rampage burning the party flexis and banners in the district. Reports suggest that Varma could contest the upcoming assembly polls as an independent candidate if TDP fails to allocate the Pithapuram seat to him.

Meanwhile, YSRCP candidate and Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha is preparing to take on the rivals in the forthcoming polls. The advocate-turned-politician wields a strong influence in the assembly constituency. Given her stature, Jana Sena leader faces a fierce poll battle ahead.
