Pawan's Political Gamble: Trusting TDP Could Cost Him Pithapuram

3 Apr, 2024 17:09 IST|Sakshi Post

Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party's alliance with Chandrababu Naidu's TDP for the ensuing elections in Andhra Pradesh is fraught with risks and potential betrayal. The Pithapuram contest has become a matter of pride for Jana Sena’s president who has lost both Bhimavaram and Gajuwaka constituencies in the 2019 assembly elections.

In his recent Vahari yatra in Chebrolu village of Gollaprolu mandal in Kakinada district, Pawan Kalyan begged the people to vote for him and ‘send me to the assembly once’.

Meanwhile, TDP in-charge SVSN Varma has also now become a big leader of Pawan Kalyan. The victory of Pawan, who is the founding president of a party, is now based on Varma's mercy in the Pithapuram assembly seat. It is estimated that Verma could influence more than 25,000 votes either way. Now, Pawan’s victory in the elections seems to be hinging on Varma’s support.

The question that is troubling the Jana Sena leader is why would Varma support him. Why would he really shoot himself in the foot? Why would he give his own constituency to Pawan Kalyan on a platter? Varma is a protege of Naidu, so he will work only in the interest of his party.

Pawan Kalyan’s win from Pithapuram seat may pose danger to the future prospects of Nara Lokesh. The TDP leadership is also taking this fact into consideration. Janasainiks feel that Varma may pretend that he’s supporting Pawan Kalyan but he may ensure his defeat to avoid causing harm to the party’s cause and future prospects in the region.
