Pawan Kalyan begs to become MLA

31 Mar, 2024 18:07 IST|Sakshi Post

Beleaguered actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan, who has not been elected so far, turns desperate this time around. Even after a decade since floating Jana Sena party, Pawan and his party failed to secure seats or notable vote percentage. Amidst this, Pawan openly begged to become MLA. He  made a heartfelt plea to the people of Pithapuram assembly constituency to elect him as an MLA in the forthcoming elections.

"Vote for me and elect me. Please send me to the assembly once," Pawan Kalyan appealed to the locals during his poll campaign.

Pawan Kalyan's desperation to secure a place in the AP assembly becomes evident from his earnest appeal with folded hands to the locals during his Varahi yatra in Chebrolu village of Gollaprolu mandal in Kakinada district.

He founded the Jana Sena party in 2014, however, the party lacked organisational structure and immediate political clout during its inception. The party contested its inaugural elections in 2019 but faced humiliating defeat even though it had formed an alliance with the Communist parties and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Pawan Kalyan himself lost both the seats he contested.

While Jana Sena party had won one MLA seat in Razole in 2019, the MLA switched his loyalties to YSRCP. For the upcoming elections, Pawan Kalyan settled for two Lok Sabha and 21 Assembly seats. This decision came after TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu refused to increase the number of seats for the alliance. By accepting Naidu's condition as part of the seat-sharing deal, Pawan Kalyan hurt the pride of his own Kapu community.

Moreover, Pawan Kalyan's acceptance of Naidu's conditions for the seat-sharing arrangement was perceived as detrimental to his position among the Kapu community members. The move dampened their expectations that one of their prominent leaders would fight for more representation in the government. Consequently, Kalyan faced criticism for compromising the interests of his community.

A decade later, Pawan Kalyan faces a challenging landscape dominated by the ruling YSRCP. During his poll campaign atop the Varahi vehicle, Pawan Kalyan promised to develop Pithapuram with massive central aid once elected to power. However, the fact that his party has not been able to make any impact since it was established raises questions about his ability to deliver on his promises. Are there any takers for Pawan's sympathy-seeking tactics? Well, we have to wait and watch.
