NEW DELHI: Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday, stated that the  Center had received a  proposal from the Andhra Pradesh Government to shift the State High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool.  This was in response to a query raised by YSRCP MPs Kotagiri Sridhar and Chinta Anuradha to the Union on the issue of moving the High Court to Kurnool in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

He clarified that the shifting of the High Court to Kurnool should be taken by the state government in consultation with the High Court. All the administrative expenses of the High Court will be borne by the State government. He said that as a procedure the state government and the high court should come to a decision on shifting the High Court to Kurnool. After that, the proposal should be sent to the Central Government, he said.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted for the fifth consecutive day on Friday following opposition protests over price rise and the Goods and Services Tax on daily essentials, leading to adjournment of the House till 12 noon.

As soon as the House assembled at 11 am, opposition members belonging to the Congress and Left parties came to the well and staged protests.

Speaker Om Birla appealed to them to go back to their respective seats and take part in the proceedings of the House which was taking up questions related to different ministries and departments.

He informed the Rajya Sabha that 72,062 cases were pending in the Supreme Court, 5 million cases in High Courts, and 41 million cases in the district and subordinate courts till July 1, 2022. No time frame has been fixed for the disposal of cases. It (disposal) depends on several factors,” the minister said.
