Jansainiks Feel Pawan Kalyan Cannot Pedal to Power in AP Elections

Puttaparthi: At a time when political parties are pulling out all the stops for the fast approaching General elections and Assembly elections, one party is seemingly lagging behind in terms of preparation for upcoming polls in Andhra Pradesh. It is strange that the party which was born to question powers that be is not doing much to achieve its goal.

As the leadership of TDP-Jana Sena combine appears to have reached an understanding over the seat-sharing formula, however, the local leadership in Satya Sai district is resolute in its demand for two assembly seats — Dharmavaram and Puttaparthi or Kadiri for the party. The TDP-Jana Sena have thrashed out the seat-sharing arrangement but it’s not clear how many seats were allotted to Pawan Kalyan’s party for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Following the last week’s meeting between the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, the TDP leaders in the district have indicated that the Jana Sena will not get a chance to field its candidates from the district. With the TDP laying its claim on the assembly segments, the district unit of the Jana Sena is undecided whether to extend their support to the TDP ally or not. It is likely some of the Jansainiks, who are not happy with the party’s decision, may quit the party.

Local Jana Sena supporters opine that the party’s leadership is not taking the sentiments of its district unit before arriving at a decision with the TDP ally. Some are of the opinion that Jana Sena should not have entered into a pre-poll alliance with the TDP at all. Jana Sena has been actively supporting the TDP since 2014 elections and yet the party has failed to gain new grounds in the district.
