INS Visakhapatnam Commissioned Into Indian Navy

INS Visakhapatnam was commissioned into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai on November 21. Defence minister Rajnath Singh attended the commissioning ceremony of INS Visakhapatnam into the Indian Navy on Sunday. He tweeted that, "This indigenously developed missile destroyer is packed with state-of-the-art weapons & modern technology. It is a symbol of India’s growing maritime prowess."

Speaking on the occasion, he said that, "Indo-Pacific is a key route and it is important for the world economy. It is the primary objective of the Indian Navy to keep the route secure."

He further added that "The entire world is increasing its Military power in coming years and expenditure on defence budget will increase. We have moved towards the development of an indigenous shipbuilding hub."

Narendra Modi also tweeted on November 21. He wrote, "Today is a proud day for India’s quest to become Aatmanirbhar in the defence sector. INS Visakhapatnam is commissioned into the Indian Navy! It is indigenously developed and will strengthen our security apparatus. Our efforts towards defence modernisation continue with full vigour."

INS Visakhapatnam:

INS Visakhapatnam is made up of indigenous steel DMR 249A and is amongst the largest destroyers constructed in India with an overall length of 163m and displacement of over 7,400 tons.
