ACB Court Takes Up Illegal Assets Case Against Chandrababu

In a significant development, The ACB special court is going to take up daily hearing of the illegal assets petition filed against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu from October 21. The petition was filed in 2005 by Lakshmi Parvati, the widow of former CM late NT Rama Rao. It was alleged in the petition that Chandrababu Naidu has amassed large-scale properties by corrupt means. Chandrababu has been stonewalling this petition from going into regular hearing for more than 15 years seeking refuge behind the interim orders given on the petition by the high court.

But with the Supreme Court's latest directives that immediate hearings should be taken up on cases filed against MPs and MLAs in the country, this petition came up before the ACB special court for fresh hearing. While deciding to conduct daily hearing on the petition, the special court posted the matter to October 21 for the next hearing. What it also means is that the special court will now be able to record the statement of Lakshmi Parvathi, the petitioner.

The case was filed in 2005 and the then AP High Court had granted a stay on proceedings pending before the ACB court. For the last 15 years, the stay was in operation and the trial was pending on the premise of the interim orders issued by the High Court. The court will now take up the hearing of Chandrababu's Naidu case on day to day basis. Pursuant to the Supreme Court recent order, the Telangana High Court issued orders directing the Metropolitan sessions judge at Hyderabad, special judge for the trial of cases against MPs and MLAs, to take up the hearing of the cases pending before their courts on a daily basis.

Cash For Votes Scam Case Too To See The Daylight

The sweeping directives of the Supreme Court also means that the sensational cash for votes scam case will also be taken up for hearing on a daily basis. Revanth Reddy, when he was in the TDP, Vem Narender Reddy and a few others are the key accused in the case in which an attempt was made to bribe nominated MLA Stephenson in favour of their candidate in Telangana MLC elections some years ago. The entire bribing episode was captured on secret cameras installed in Stephenson's residence.

The ACB also took up the note for vote case involving Congress MP A Revanth Reddy, MLC Narender Reddy and others and adjourned the case to Monday for further hearing. This sensational case also came up before the ACB special court which adjourned it till Monday for further hearing. From Monday onwards, the court is likely to hold regular hearing in this case as well.
