AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday clarified that its earlier order instructing theater managements to fix price of movie tickets after consultation with joint collectors, who are license issuing authorities, would apply to all the theater owners in the State.

The state government filed an appeal before the High Court challenging the orders of the single judge that movie ticket prices could be fixed in the same manner as before the issuance of GO 35, irrespective of the GO issued by the government fixing ticket prices within the municipal corporations, municipalities and panchayats.

The case had come for hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy found fault with the Principal Secretary (Home) issuing orders stating that the court orders are only applicable to theaters owners who approached the court. The bench asked Advocate General S Sriram to advise the principal secretary not to issue such orders to the media.

The tribunal, which heard the appeals, last week, heard the case again on Monday.

Government pleader (home) V Maheswara Reddy department, sought some more time for submitting additional material with regard to the case. The bench agreed and adjourned the case hearing to December 23.

In the latest decision taken on Sunday, related to movie ticket sales in the State, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to entrust the responsibility of distributing movie tickets to the AP Film Development Corporation (APFDC). As per the amendment made in the Cinematography Act in the Assembly, the AP government has released GO No 142 about the online tickets.
