Ex-Minister Quits Active Politics, Deals Blow to Party

Former minister and senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy announced his retirement from active politics on Saturday. This decision deals a major blow to the TDP's prospects in North Andhra Pradesh, according to local party leaders.

The 72-year-old Murthy announced during a meeting with party workers and supporters near his residence in Paravada, Anakapalli district. His decision stemmed from the allocation of the Pendurthi constituency to Jana Sena's Panchakarla Ramesh Babu as part of the alliance's seat-sharing arrangement.

Expressing disappointment over the development, Murthy informed the gathering that he would continue working as an ordinary party member without joining any other political outfit. He firmly dismissed rumours suggesting he had received a call from TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Murthy's withdrawal from active politics represents a significant setback for the TDP in the crucial North Andhra region, where he wielded substantial influence as a senior leader and former minister.
