New Delhi: Penned by renowned journalist Devulapalli Amar, "The Deccan Powerplay", was released at an event in New Delhi on Tuesday. The book was unveiled by Sanjaya Baru, former media advisor to the Prime Minister.

The book launch was attended by senior journalist Venkata Narayana, President of the All India Cameramen's Association SN Sinha, President of the Press Club of India Gautam Lahiri, and other distinguished guests. On this occasion, the invitees highlighted several key insights from the new book and engaged in discussions about its central themes and analysis.

The book launch was followed by a panel discussion between the author and invited dignitaries. During his remarks at the book launch event, Sanjaya Baru highlighted several critical issues related to politics in Telugu states. He noted that the political importance of Telugu people at the national level is decreasing owing to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He observed that politics is now evolving more on the basis of caste rather than language affiliations. However, Baru emphasised that despite the bifurcation, steady industrial development is continuing in both Telugu states.

In his new book, author Devulapalli Amar seeks to correct misconceptions about Telugu politics perpetuated by the Delhi media. He feels the national media does not adequately cover southern Indian politics. Drawing on his 47 years of experience as a journalist, Amar offers an insider's perspective on Deccan politics.

The author has made an attempt to analyse the political journeys of three leaders who have shaped Telugu politics — the former chief minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, his son and current Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Chandrababu Naidu, who served as chief minister for 14 years. Having observed these influential figures for over 40 years, Amar examines the divergent paths they took in public service and the political betrayal of the opposition leader.

The book, described as a literal take on politics, will throw light on Chandrababu’s ‘Viceroy’s Conspiracy’ in the history of Andhra Pradesh politics. Spanning from Indira Gandhi’s formation of Congress (I), where the ‘I’ stands for Indira Gandhi, was a camp that emerged in 1978, to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. The author of this book also makes an attempt to analyse the actions of 11 Chief Ministers over 40 years in united Andhra Pradesh, from Marri Chenna Reddy to Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy. He also examines the crucial events in the now bifurcated states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
