NELLORE: The ruling YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) swept the Atmakur by-poll in Andhra Pradesh, where its candidate Mekapati Vikram Reddy defeated the nearest BJP rival with over 82,000 votes majority on Sunday.

Speaking to the media after the counting of votes was completed at Nellorepalem Mekapati Vikram Reddy said that, the AP Government’s Navaratnalu ( Welfare schemes) was the reason for his win in the Atmakur by-elections.

" I thank the people of Atmakur for electing me and also for placing your faith in my family.  I will uphold ‘’Goutham anna’s’’ name and my responsibility has increased further,” he stated.

Later his father Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy spoke to the media, " I thank the people of Atmakur for this win. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy's popularity has not diminished. The Navratnalu being implemented by AP CM YS  Jagan are the reason for this success, he attributed and these welfare schemes are being implemented as never before in the state. The BJP has no presence in Andhra Pradesh, he declared, and that the party has done a grave injustice to the state. “The Center has forgotten the promises it made and had the center extended its support it would have been beneficial for the State," he said. The state is in the need of YS Jagan’s direction who has all the qualities of great leadership, he said. The people in the state have no faith in Chandrababu and he has no scope of coming to power in the future, he declared.

The Atmakur by-poll was held on June 23 which was necessitated after the demise of Mekapati Goutham Reddy, who was YSRCP MLA and Industries Minister, on February 21.
