Amaravati: Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao said that the Tourism Department had sustained enough even after falling short of revenue during Covid crisis and will pace up the development operations.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Minister said that there are 38 restaurants run by the Department and during COVID lockdown, all these restaurants supplied food to COVID centres and earned a revenue of Rs 58 crore in the last financial year and Rs 28 crore in the ongoing financial year, he said and added that the government didn’t lay off any of the 1138 employees.

The Minister said that proposals are still on to set up a floating restaurant in Visakhapatnam by using the ship that came from Bangladesh, which was taken over by the State government and further planned to establish five and seven star hotels across 13 districts to boost the tourism and hospitality sector through Public Private Partnership. In this regard, Oberoi Group has come forward to invest in setting up five star and seven star hotels in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. Similarly, tenders have been called for developing Rishikonda hotel as Bluebay hotel with Rs 164 crore, to make the State find its due place in the World Tourism map.
