Under the Andhra Pradesh government’s Aarogyasri scheme, many patients who are suffering from rare diseases are getting treated. Patients are also getting bone marrow transplant (BMT) surgeries. A total of 90 percent of these surgeries have been done under government-sponsored Aarogyasri.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, consultant medical oncologist Dr. Krishna Reddy, BMT physician at Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada, said that their hospital has successfully completed 50 bone marrow transplants and saved the lives of many adults and children. He further stated that most of these operations had been operated under Arogyasri.

BMT physician Dr. Madhav Danthala said that both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants had been performed to treat diseases like multiple myeloma, APML, aplastic anaemia,  lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Wilms tumour, neuroblastoma,  and Ewing sarcoma.

Dr. Madhav stated that "We have treated patients of all ages from Anantapur to East Godavari. Our youngest patient is a two-year-old girl, while oldest is 63 years using sophisticated technologies."

Vijayawada Manipal Hospital director Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi added that they are providing rare surgeries under the Aarogyasri scheme and their hospital is standing first in performing rare procedures using modern technology.
