AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary action against AB Venkateswara Rao (IPS batch 1989) for violating All India Service regulations. Orders to this effect have been issued by Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das through GO RT: 767 under Rule 8 of All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969 on Sunday.

AB Venkateswara Rao, who was suspended for alleged irregularities in the procurement of surveillance equipment disclosed several aspects of the investigation in violation of the Service Rules after appearing before the Commissioner of Inquiries.

The senior police official while speaking to the media at the Secretariat premises in Velagapudi on the 4th of this month had made offensive remarks, criticism and allegations against several officials.

The GO further said that under Rule 7 of AIS (Conduct) Rules, 1968, no member of the service shall anonymously, pseudonymously or in his own name or in name of any other person or in any communication to press or in any public utterance make any statement of fact or opinion, which has the effect of an adverse criticism of any current or recent policy or action of the central or a state government.

The order said the act of the retired IPS officer is totally unbecoming of a government servant and amounts to misconduct under Rule 3 of the All India Services (Disciplinary & Appeal) Rules, 1969, and is in violation of rule 7 of the AIS (Conduct) Rules, 1968. Hence, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Ab Venkateswara Rao.

Meanwhile, the AP Police strongly condemned the statements made by AB Venkateswara Rao about the course of the CBI investigation over the YS Vivekananda Reddy.  Speaking to the media on Sunday, State Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG Technical Services) D Pala Raju ruled out the allegations made by the former chief as baseless and were against the All India Service Conduct Rules.
