AP Elections 2024: Is Nagababu Eyeing Anakapalli MP Seat?

8 Feb, 2024 16:36 IST|Sakshi Post

Pawan Kalyan’s elder brother Nagendra Babu also known as Nagababu, is a third-in-command in Jana Sena leadership. Nagababu was not keen on joining politics, however, he changed his mind after he was persuaded by his brother.

Nagababu seems to have some political ideas to take forward his political career, however, he is lagging behind due to lack of proper planning and political strategy. After joining Jana Sena party, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Narsapuram constituency. He was defeated by the YSRCP candidate Raghu Rama Krishna Raju despite securing over 2.50 lakh votes in the elections.

Undeterred by the defeat in parliamentary elections, Nagababu is once again trying his luck in the 2024 general elections. He seems to have changed his strategy and is now eyeing the Anakapalli seat. As part of his preparation for the forthcoming elections, Nagababu is busy holding meetings with the activists in Visakhapatnam. He is also conducting meetings with the leaders from Kapu community, businessmen and industrialists.
Meanwhile, Nagababu is also touring Pendurthi and Yalamanchili constituencies to strengthen the party base ahead of elections.

Last year, the district president of YSR Congress Party’s Pendurthi unit Panchkarla Ramesh Babu resigned from the party and joined the Jana Sena party. He’s hoping to contest from Pendurthi Assembly seat and Pawan Kalyan is learnt to have assured him party ticket for the ensuing Assembly elections. However, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy of TDP is lobbying for the Pendurthi ticket. Currently, it’s not clear if the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu would sacrifice this ticket to Jana Sena as part of the seat sharing formula.

The road to Anakapalli is not without troubles for Nagababu as Vijay, son of TDP leader Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu is also a strong contender for the MP seat. A local businessman Baira Dileep is also hoping for a TDP ticket from Anakapalli parliamentary constituency.

Will Nagababu prevail over TDP aspirants to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Anakapalli seat? Will Ayyanna Patrudu vacate the seat for him? Or Jana Sena has to sacrifice Anakapalle parliamentary constituency as per the alliance dharma? The answers to these questions lies in the seat sharing arrangement between the TDP and Jana and it will be clear once the alliance releases its candidates list.
