AP CM YS Jagan Pays Tributes To Potti Sriramulu, Sardar Vallabhai Patel

AMARAVATI: On the occasion of the 71st and 65th death anniversaries of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Amarjeevi Potti Sriramulu respectively, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy paid floral tributes to their portraits at the Chief Minister's Camp office in Tadepalli on Wednesday.

TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy, MLA Maddali Giridhara Rao, AP State Aryavaishya Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Kuppam Prasad were present on the occasion.

In the month of September, the AP Postal department released a stamp on Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu in connection with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Potti Sriramulu fought for the separate statehood for Andhra Pradesh from Madras State and went on a  fast unto death for 58 days, till he tragically passed away on 15 December 1952.

After his death, the Telugu-speaking area of Andhra State was carved out of Madras State on 1 October 1953 with Kurnool as its capital city. More than three years later, on 1 November 1956, Andhra Pradesh came into existence with Hyderabad as its capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to India's first home minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his 71st death anniversary on Wednesday. Patel is credited with efforts that led to the merger of a large number of princely states with the Union of India after independence. "Remembering Sardar Patel on his Punya Tithi. India will always be grateful to him for his monumental service, his administrative skills, and the untiring efforts to unite our nation," Modi said in a tweet.
