Kurnool: The chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterated YSRCP government’s commitment to make Kurnool judicial capital of the state. He made this remark after laying a foundation stone for National Law University in the district on Thursday. This will be the second National Law University in the State and 29th in the country.

Last February, the state government had announced its decision to set up a law university in Kurnool. The proposed university will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore. The government has identified 50 acres of land near Lakshmipuram village in Kallur mandal for the proposed National Law University.

Addressing the gathering, CM YS Jagan said the national law university is being established in Kurnool as part of the provisions of the Sribagh Agreement. He said the Sribagh pact was reached when the state capital was being moved from Kurnool to Hyderabad and the pact seeks to build a high court in Kurnool.

He also said that currently, Andhra Pradesh Legal Metrology, Labour Commission, AP Value Added Tax Appellate Tribunal, AP Waqf Board, AP State Human Rights Commission and Lokayukta are carrying out their duties from Kurnool district.
