New Delhi: Just days after a sharp drop in AAP's vote share in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that women in Delhi will be allowed to travel free in public buses and metros. The motive behind the move is to ensure that women can access modes of transport and also ensure a safe travel experience, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia along with transport minister Kailash Gehlot were also present.

“On all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains women will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they have a safe travel experience and can access modes of transport which they were not able to due to high prices,” said Kejriwal.

"Subsidy won't be imposed on anyone. There are several women who can afford these modes of transport. Those who can afford, can purchase tickets, they needn't take subsidy. We encourage those, who can afford, to buy tickets and not take subsidy so that others could benefit," the CM added.

Kejriwal had however denied that the government's initiative has anything with the election outcome.
