Vijayawada: In the wake of the attack on party president, Amit Shah's convoy, the Andhra Pradesh BJP has demanded the suspension of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tirupati. A delegation of state BJP leaders met the Director-General of Police of the state, demanding action against the SP and also pointed out that physical attacks by TDP workers against BJP partymen had been on the rise in recent days.

The BJP representatives said that the TDP workers attacked Amit Shah's convoy after revealing their plans to the media. They appealed to the DGP to ensure protection of the BJP partymen. They also pointed out that TDP workers had set fire to PM Modi's effigies in several places and that despite complaints, no cases had been registered against them.

The director-general of police however, said that though the complaint stated that the BJP president's convoy had been pelted with stones, only one car in the cavalcade was hit with sticks, when the fleet slowed down. Stones were not thrown at any car in the convoy, he said. One individual had been arrested and a case registered, the DGP clarified. He added that a probe would be conducted and that if there was any lapse on the part of the department, action would be taken.
