A still from Mahanati

Mahanati, one of the most awaited movies of this year has hit the marquee this morning across India. The film is based on the life of yesteryear south Indian actress Savithri. The talented artiste was one of the most sought-after actors down South then. Savithri ruled the cinema industry in the 50s and 60s. Before we begin the review, let's have a look at the star cast and the production crew.

Plot: The title Mahanati translated to 'great actress.' The biopic is set in the 50s and chronicles the life of the actress. The film traces her life journey from childhood till her death and touches upon the rise and fall of her career.

In her illustrious career, Savitri has played all kinds of characters. Her real life too was no less than a movie plot. The actress who reached the highest peak in her career also saw several lows later in her life. Savitri's life was also dogged my controversies. But how many of them are true and how many are worth ignoring? The film Mahanati provides answers to all these questions.

Review: The best thing about the film is the way the filmmaker keeps the audience engaged by throwing in some interesting element or the other through the film. The first half is pacy and keerthy Suresh has excelled in her role of Savitri. The second half is intense and keeps you guessing on the turn of events. The film might lack any commercial elements, but sure drives home the point the filmmaker wants to make in a subtle manner.

Performances: Keerthy Suresh is sure the showstopper as she steals the show throughout as she brings to life Savitri. Dulquer Salmaan can expect more offers in his kitty after this.Undeniably after Keerthy, if there's another person who deserves a special mention it is none other than Samantha as Madhuravani. She sure is a revelation. Nag Chaitanya as ANR, Rajendra Prasad as KV Chowdhary, Mohan Babu as SVR, Prakash Raj as Chakrapani, Krish as KV Reddy, Tarun Bhaskar as Sangeetham Srinivas...every actor has done justice to his role. Vijaydevarakonda too stands out. You can see the effort and pain taken by the filmmakers to bring the classic ambience on screen.
