New year jolt to commuters from RTC

For those who want to go shopping from Jan1, 2013 will have to keep one rupee extra in their pocket as the government is all set to increase APSRTC bus fares.

The RTC which has increased bus fares recently, is ready to impose development surcharge of Rs one on each ticket from January 1.

The hike would be 50 paise on each ticket for Pallevelugu buses and Rs one for express and luxury services.

With this proposed hike, the APSRTC hopes to generate an additional revenue of Rs 250 crore per year which will be utilised for purchasing new buses.
