PM Narendra Modi’s Extends Nationwide Lockdown Till May 3rd

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces the extension of ongoing nationwide lockdown till May 3. Modi goes with the majority opinion of chief ministers of all states which means, the lockdown will be stretched for another 19 days.

Prime Minister Narendra started his speech by removing his mask and it passes a message that it is important to wear a mask to protect oneself from the coronavirus. He asserted that people are facing so many difficulties during this coronacrisis but everyone is working as a soldier today and as a result the country is fighting against the coronavirus.

He emphasised on the quote, ‘We The People..’ of India and said that we are proving it. He added that this display of collective strength is the true tribute to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. He said that Ambedkar's life gives us an inspiration to face the challenges.

Modi said that we have taken immediate steps to stop the spread of coronavirus and the path we have chosen proved to be correct. He added that social distancing and lockdown has benefitted the nation.

The number of COVID-19 cases are increasing with each passing day. Several states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana, Odisha and others have already extended the lockdown despite all the hardships. The states sought an extension of the lockdown till April 30 in a meeting on Saturday with PM Modi.
