New Delhi: Arun Jaitley had a long stint as president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). However, his tenure was also marred by a string of controversies. Jaitley was the president of DDCA from 1999 to 2013. To his credit, it was the former union minister who brought a world class stadium to Delhi. The installation of flood lights in the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium was also his idea. Ferozshah Kotla Stadium was banned for a year during this time clouding the former finance minister's reputation. There were cricketers and politicians alike who made Arun Jaitley the butt of their criticism especially with respect to DDCA administration as well as selection processes.

In 2012, the ministry of corporate affairs launched a probe into alleged financial irregularities through the serious fraud investigation office. The time frame of the alleged financial irregularities coincided with his long tenure. They included misappropriation of funds, non payment of taxes, irregularities in membership and other alleged violations.

Former cricketers like Bishen Singh Bedi and Kirti Azad, the Bihar MP from Arun Jaitley's party made serious allegations of financial irregularities against the BJP stalwart. Arvind Kejriwal joined the chorus after the BJP came to power in 2014, but Arun Jaitley stoutly denied the allegations and went on to become the finance minister.

Among this admirers in DDCA were cricketing legends Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, both of whom strongly defended the late minister and BJP veteran over corruption charges.
