Congress Leaders, PM Pay Rich Tributes To Rajiv Gandhi On 75th Birth Anniversary

New Delhi: On the 75th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi on Tuesday, top Congress leaders, including party president Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, and former president Pranab Mukherjee, paid homage to the former Prime Minister.

At a prayer meeting organised at 'Veer Bhumi', the memorial of Rajiv Gandhi, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid homage along with other family members. The Congress celebrates the birth anniversary as 'Sadbhavna Diwas'.

A host of Congress leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, were also present at the prayer meeting. Former vice president Hamid Ansari was also there.

An audio clip from one of Rajiv Gandhi speeches and devotional song 'Vaishnava Jan To' was playing in the background.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remembered his father as someone who taught him never to hate anyone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to former PM.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh while remembering the former Prime Minister tweeted:

Rajiv Gandhi was made the Prime Minister of the country after the assassination of his mother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. He was elected as Prime Minister at an age of 40.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in May 1991, while campaigning for the Congress in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur.
