Uncanny Parallels Between Raj Travels Lalit Sheth, Cafe Coffee Day’s VG Siddhartha Suicides

On August 1, 2012, the owner of Raj Travels, Lalit Sheth, walked for 2 kms after getting down from his car, to reach the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai, before he leapt into the Arabian Sea to his death. His driver, Ajit Jha, was the last person to see him alive. Jha told the police that Sheth got down to make some calls. It was only after his son, Akash Sheth reached the place that he found a suicide note reportedly written by his father in his car. Police swung into action and fishermen later recovered Lalit Sheth's body. The owner of Raj Travels, a successful business enterprise, was under tremendous stress owing to financial difficulties. His firm had suffered serious losses in 2010, according to what his son had told the police at that time. He was in huge debts at the time of his death.

The parallels between Lalit Sheth's death and Cafe Coffee Day founder, VG Siddhartha's suicide, are hard to miss. Both were pushed to the edge by debts and jumped into water to their death. In both instances, their drivers were the last persons to see them alive. Both left suicide notes in which they admitted they had failed as businessmen, revealing a depressed state of mind.
