Illicit Relationship Gets Army Officers Court-Martialed

Hyderabad: The Indian Army has ordered court martial against two of its officers in senior ranks allegedly for having an illicit relationship. The woman is from the Intelligence Corps, while the man is with the Special Forces, according to a leading Indian news magazine.

The court-martial proceedings begin from May 22.

According to reports, the matter came to light when the major's wife filed a complaint with Army chief Bipin Rawat. The complainant also wrote to the Army chief's wife who heads the Army Wives' Welfare Association (AWWA). The forum handles issues related to family matters.

As part of evidence, the woman had also provided intimate photographs and videos of both of them to substantiate her allegations against the two.

According to the report, the duo met during the Army's operation to capture the commander of Kashmiri militant group Hizbul Mujahideen Burhan Wani. The female officer was posted in the Northern Command Counter Intelligence Unit and the male officer was with the Rashtriya Rifles.

A charge-sheet recommending court-martial against the officers have been filed against the two.

Reportedly, the female officer was awarded the Army Commander's Commendation for her operational services in 2012 when she was posted in the northeast.

Also, even if the relationship was consensual, it is not allowed in the Indian Army as it is against the moral principles of the Army and believes that the force is a big family and leniency is not allowed in the cases.
