Meerut: Tanu Tomar, hails from Baghpat District, a district which is labled one with the lowest Sex Ratio in the state. She also is a daughter of a sugar cane farmer. Tanu, against all odds, has emerged as the topper for the XII UP Board examinations on Saturday. She scored a total of 97.8% missing the grand total by just 11 marks. She is said to not have a phone neither is she active on social media.

She scored 99 marks in Biology, 98 marks in Hindi, Physics and chemistry and 96 in English. Teary eyed, she expressed her heart felt gratitude to her mother and her teachers, giving them all the credit for. “My school teachers ensured that I prepared well and my mother made sure that I had all the comfort at home, so that I could

focus entirely on my studies,” Tanu told a leading news daily.

“People in my village often used to challenge me and say that CBSE Board is an easy board and that if I genuinely want to

prove my mettle, I should try and sit for UP Board exams. I took up the challenge and sat for the exam. Looks like I have

responded to everyone [with my results] now,” said Tanu, a resident of Fatehpur Putthi village in Baghpat’s Baraut.

For Tanu’s parents Harendra Tomar and Ruma Tomar this is a "moment of success for the entire family". “I never thought that

our daughter will come first in the entire state of UP. I am only Class X pass, but I always dreamt of my children completing their

education well,” said Harendra, who has a 24 bigha land and sows sugarcane and wheat.
