Narendra Modi To File Nomination From His Turf Varanasi Today

Varanasi (UP): After the massive road show in Varanasi on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be filing his nomination papers today from the Varanasi constituency where he is seeking a re-election.

Among the allies attending the event are Bihar chief minister and Janata Dal-United chief Nitish Kumar, Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Piyush Goyal, J P Nadda and Nitin Gadkari are also likely to attend, party leaders said.

Modi will be contesting against Congress' Ajay Rai, putting to rest speculation that Priaynka Gandhi Vadra will be contesting for the general elections.

In 2014, Modi had defeated Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal by a huge margin winning 5.8 lakh votes. Ajay Rai had come third with a mere 75,000 votes.

Varanasi votes on May 19 in the last round of the seven-phase national election. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
