Terror Wave Grips Kerala As 10 Locals Join ISIS

New Delhi: Terror wave gripped Kerala as news of 10  people from the state who joined the terrorist outfit Islamic State (ISIS) recently was confirmed by the police on Thursday. According to reports, the group, hailing from Kannur district, consisted of two families— from Azhikode and Poothappara and a man from Kuruva.

According to the Kerala police sources, 10 people left India to join the Islamic State in Afghanistan and Syria. They left Kerala on November 20 saying that they were going to Mysuru in Karnataka. The police carried out search operations after they learned that the individuals went missing. Reports cited that the 10 persons — K Sajjad, his wife, and two children, Anwar, his wife, and three children and one TP Nissam — reached Iran and went to Afghanistan.

These individuals are said to have prior links to ISIS, as Anwar's wife Afseela, is the sister-in-law of Shameer, who was killed along with two of his sons Salman and Safwan after having joined the ISIS. In other instances, a total of 35 people had been arrested by Turkey police - including 13 children from Kannur for making an attempt to join the terror outfit. A probe is underway and is being carried out by - DySP P Sadanandan.
