Chennai:The usually reticent Oscar-winning music composer, A R Rahman has finally broken his silence over the me too movement that has hit the music industry. The Mozart of Madras has come out in support of the #MeToo movement in India. Posting a tweet on Monday night, he expressed shock over the names of the victims and the perpetrators that were coming out & stating he was willing to support the victims who were opening up. He also asked campaigners to exercise caution while resorting to internet based justice system saying the platform must not be misused.

Rahman's reaction was probably in response to several allegations made by female singers from the Tamil Film Industry who opened up about their harrowing experiences with National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu.

The #MeToo started with singer Chinmayee Sripada who sharing her bitter experiences with lyricist Vairamuthu on how he harassed her and pressurised her. She also said that she didn't relent. This caused an uproar in Kollywood and following her allegations, several established and wannabe singers narrated similar experiences. They stated how the lyricist (who also runs a girls hostel) harassed them.

Meanwhile, the controversy has evoked mixed response from the Tamil Film Industry as he is a writer of repute. Some say that it should first be proved and why hadn't the singers reacted then when it happened and Kamal Haasan said that only those involved in the issue should speak up. Vairamuthu's close friends maintained that he is being victimised in the #MeToo movement and until it is proved in court there can be no media trial to defame the person.

Vairamuthu released a video in which he said that he had consulted legal experts and got enough evidence to prove that these accusations were false following which Chinmayi dared him to take the lie detector test to prove that he was not guilty.
