New Delhi: After a massive controversy broke out over objectionable comments against Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the Netflix India Original web series 'Sacred Games', the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is reportedly chalking out guidelines on the content broadcast in the Indian web series. The Ministry is in the process of formulating guidelines for web series, suggested sources.

The Centre's intervention was imminent after the Netflix series triggered the need for a policy for the Internet content on news in public domain and entertainment. Under the purview of the policy guidelines, all types of content will be subject to scrutiny and regulation.

In April this year, former I&B minister Smriti Irani approved the notification to create a 10-member committee for formulation of a framework on online media/news portals including digital broadcasting and entertainment/infotainment sites and news/media aggregators.

Earlier this week, a Congress activist filed a complaint with the Kolkata police against actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Netflix India for insulting and abusing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the Sacred Games series.

The Delhi High Court will hear a plea seeking removal of certain scenes from the series, claiming that certain dialogues against PM Rajiv Gandhi were deplorable.
