Mock Drill Proves Fatal For Kovai Kalaimagal College Student in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu: Mock drill in Disaster Management turned fatal for a 19-year-old girl in Coimbatore the student was forcibly pushed from the second floor of the college building on Thursday. The video of the girl falling from the building has gone viral on social media.

N. Logeswari, a second-year BBA student in Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science at Narasipur died on the spot after she hit the sunshade of the first floor. It is reported that the college students were being trained in disaster management. As a part of the training, the trainer prepared a mock drill for the students who were asked to jump from the second floor of the building. However, a few students were also deployed on the ground who were holding a net to land safely.

In the video, the trainer R Arumugam is seen pushing the girl who falls on the sunshade of the building before landing on the net. She died on the spot with serious head and neck injuries.

The police registered a case and arrested the drill master. The drill was conducted by National Disaster Management Authority of India (NDMAI) to create awareness among students about safety rules and prepare them for any unexpected eventualities.

The police have arrested the trainer identified as Arumugham.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Friday condoled the death and ordered the police to take severe action against the organisers.

Palaniswami announced a compensation of Rs 500,000 to Logeshwari's family.
