Congress’ Udit Raj Asks If Supreme Court Party To Poll Rigging, Whips Up Storm

Congress leader Udit Raj, who has been in the news lately with some controversial views and interesting observations, has made another controversial statement on Wednesday. Responding to Supreme Court junking the petition urging for counting of all VVPATs by Opposition parties, he asked if the apex court was also a party in election rigging and why their proposal was not given due importance.

Taking to micro blogging site Twitter, the North West Delhi MP tried to reason what harm would befall the nation if another two to three days were gone in tallying all VVPATs with the votes registered in the EVMs.

Referring to the Model Code of Conduct that puts a ban on policy-making and new government initiatives during the period, he said, “Three months all the government activity came to a standstill. What difference will it make if tallying EVMs with VVPATs takes another two to three days.”

As his tweet created quite a furore on the Twitter, he sought to explain his comments. He said his intention was not to cast any aspersions on the working of the apex court, but was only to raise his concerns over alleged irregularities in the election process.

The Supreme Court had earlier struck down the petition of the 22 Opposition Parties which requested that all VVPATs be tallied with votes in the EVMs. Meanwhile, Udit Raj, who won North West Delhi parliamentary constituency on a BJP ticket in 2014, switched his allegiance to Congress after he was denied a ticket by the saffron party.
