Kamal Haasan’s comments drew severe flak from across the country

Hyderabad: MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi endorsed the views of actor-turned politician Kamal Haasan who stoked controversy with his remarks that the first terrorist of the independent India was Nathuram Godse, a Hindu.

Speaking to press persons here on Tuesday, he said how the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, could be termed as a “great man”. He pointedly asked those objected to Haasan’s remarks and those who get touchy about Hindu terrorism to explain as to who killed Gandhi if it was not Godse.

Kamal Haasan’s comments which rubbed the Hindutva supporters wrong way were made in Aravakuchi in Tamil Naidu as part of his party’s election campaign. He said: “I am saying this standing in front of Gandhi statue. After India became independent, the first terrorist was a Hindu man, Nathuram Godse. Terrorism began with the assassin of Gandhi, that is Godse. I am not saying this because there are lot of Muslim voters here. I will say this anywhere.”
